HERE ARE YOUR WEEKEND WINNERS

While the "fiscal cliff" negotiations are an apparent failure, with the imminent passage of the Farm Bill, your weekend big winners are: the dairy farmers, Monsanto and the newly preggers Kim Khardashian, all of whom may have been genetically modified.....

ECONOMIC CONUNDRUM AN OBAMA WIN-WIN

If you are exposed to any media you have been inundated with the current "negotiations" of the impending (and tragically  misnamed) "fiscal cliff." I have sat on the sidelines observing commentary on both sides of the  aisle as what more is there to say...is there an angle, a perspective that has yet to be voiced? Until now I would answer with a resounding no. Until now.
As the President and Speaker break for the holidays and have what Obama has described as a cooling  off period, one thing is very clear...the president is a political genius. No, really...hear me out.
First, he defeats the incredibly popular and experienced Hillary Clinton in the primary despite having a resume anyone  would admit is slightly light in the loafers by any standard. And he starts his victorious run right out of the gate...in Iowa. Iowa. A black man carries Iowa.
Second, he decimates his opposition and wins the Oval Office handily, reigning in four years of a presidency that sees the economy spit and sputter, the deficit balloon and foreign affairs explode, ending with an American diplomat dragged out  of our embassy and summarily killed. And yet he achieves what many thought was impossible...he seeks and wins re-election.
And now that he has a mandate and his reelection totals still warm, he seeks resolution of an economic  recovery program which includes that which the vast majority of conservatives have vowed not to do...raise taxes on anyone, let alone the very people who heavily  funded their failed attempts to "take their  country back"...the  filthy rich.
And so here we are...in a White House room with Speaker Boehner waving his index finger at the Pres, and the president waiving another finger back at Boehner. You see Obama knows what most conservatives fail to see...the American people see the GOP as the stumbling block in the negotiations....and if anything goes wrong...if they fail to reach agreement....and if the across the board tax cuts end....the American electorate will hold Boehner and the GOP to blame.
The president has become elected with  little to no experience, was reelected to office despite an economic spiral, and now has managed to transfer ownership of the very economic condition he did so much to shape over the last four years....to his opposition.
The man is an economic genius....even Bill Clinton has to marvel at his Teflon coating.
And that is the world...."The World According to Kimba." Thanks for reading.

GOOD IDEA FROM THE N.R.A.

While many have lambasted NRA chief La Pierre for his idea to have an armed policeman patrolling each public school,I think it's a great idea. I live in an affluent area, and my daughter's high school has a patrolman there every day...you'd never know he was there, except for a patrol car parked out in front (or two some days).
It warns intruders of a police presence and it gives the students the opportunity to get to know the police for what they are...brave public servants who are there for them (and not the enemy)....it also gives students the opportunity to ask them for advise, or help at home if they need it.
Don't think we can afford it? Sure we can...we'll just add the costs to gun registration fees and the price of bullets....just like the sin taxes on tobacco, gun owners can foot the bill for the potential for disaster public ownership of weapons present.
The NRA wants guards at every school? I say bring them on...we need more law enforcement in every town.....especially since we can now afford them due to the generous offer by NRA chief La Pierre...thanks,bud!
And that's the world...."The World According to Kimba." Thanks for reading.

LA PIRRE: WAXING IRONIC AND SHOOTING BLANKS

Ironic morning...following the national moment of silence for the victims of Sandy Hook with many moments of stupidity by NRA czar La Pierre....whose vision is of creating school prisons with armed guards at every entrance...armed guards patrolling every hallway and classroom....
Typical rhetoric...blame the media, video games, Hollywood and the mentally ill and skirt the real issue at hand....not that we should have the right to bare arms, but should we have unfettered rights to bare assault weapons and automatic weapons with clips of 10,20,30 rounds....is there a need for possessing the ability to spray 20 bullets automatically in less than 5 seconds?
Should we continue with loose gun purchasing laws at gun shows and shouldn't we look at private gun sales which put serious weapons in the wrong hands?
At least now that the NRA has come out and spoken, maybe conservatives will come out from hiding and address the issue. Make no mistake, just as Norquist is/was their spokesman on taxes, La Pierre is their spokesman on guns.
And that's the world....the "World According to Kimba." Thanks for reading.

AMERICA REACTS TO SANDY HOOK

If the only take-away from the tragic events from Sandy Hook is that you had better buy more guns, or  protect the automatic weapons you already own....
you are a moronic, heartless, unfeeling son of a bitch.
I'm not sure who Clay Bennett is from the Chattenooga Free Press,
but he deserves a Pulitzer for capturing the moment immediately following the tragedy.

THE CONVERSATION IS ELEMENTARY

I'm all about individual rights and I'm all about upholding the constitution.....
and I know that anyone who could look into the bright, fresh face of a 5 year old and pull the trigger is pure evil. All I'm saying is...we have to take action. Easily concealable handguns...automatic weapons...I'm tired of this shit. I'm tired of the weekly reports of madmen...of mass murders...
but this one really takes the cake. We have to have a conversation, and we need legislation.
And, if upon hearing the news reports your first thoughts were
"OMG the liberals are going to want to take away my guns"....capital F-you.
Those were 5 year old kids.
This has to stop.

On  this, the 71st anniversary of the surprise attack on an American military base, let us take pause to remember that when this country pulls together we can defeat any foe, right any wrong and defeat the forces of evil wherever they may be. In their righteous might, American heroes have always been there to protect our freedom, give others their freedom and serve as the world's watchdog and protector.
God bless those who have served.
God bless you and God bless these United States of America.

GOP CALLS FOR INVESTIGATIONS: IT'S ALL ABOUT THE ELECTION PEOPLE

OBAMA WRONG OUT OF THE GATE

President Obama needs to get some new advisers....first the Benghazi mess which now is hanging over his head when he should be off and running in his second term...the questions abound....how much did he know, was there a pre-election coverup...the questions will not end...not the least of which are why didn't he close the embassy when the Brits closed theirs and what the hell was our ambassador doing there on the anniversary of 9/11? (Not to mention the immediate, ludicrous assertion that it was not an act of terrorism, but a knee-jerk reaction to an anti-Muslim video)

In an attempt to answer the many questions he / they send his lapdog Susan Rice, who had absolutely nothing to do with Benghazi....and then thinks of nominating her for Secretary of State? Foolish. His best move, politically and for the country is to nominate a very intelligent, extremely experienced, moderate to take over for Hillary. And he is a moderate conservative, ushering in a spirit of bi-partisanship this country desperately needs....he should have nominated John Huntsman.

THE TRUTH ABOUT ROMNEY THE GOVERNOR

There was a reason Governor Romney couldn't carry his own state (any of the states he owns property in, and the state his VP candidate represents) in the federal election that just ended....in four years as Governor....his favorable rating went from 56% to 34%......he grew jobs in his state at a miserable rate of 1.5% while the federal rate was 5.3%.......in his health care plan he limited coverage to only 20 days.....he raised revenue through 33 new fees and increased 57 others....raised property taxes 22% and during his term, college tuitions increased a whopping 63%. In his last year as Governor, he spent 212 days out of his state. You may not appreciate the bullet you dodged in the last election, but his losing the election was an absolute God-send.

MAPPING THE NATIONS PROGRESS

Kind of puts the election results into perspective, does it not?

POLITICAL POSTMORTEM

Let's see...you insulted gays, women and minorities, characterized 47% of the country as lazy slackers, made numerous attempts at voter suppression and still expected to win? Somehow this rare acumen you possess somewhat diminishes your almost unanimous predictions that we will be living under communist rule in two decades. If you couldn't see this coming you either weren't paying attention, or are ignorant beyond all belief. No, your party isn't dead, it has been held hostage by right wing zealots, tea baggers, and arrogant, ignorant windbags....your party is not dead....it's much worse than that...you have become predictably, politically irrelevant.

HOLDING THE COUNTRY HOSTAGE

"Now that the elections are over, it's time to put politics aside and work together to find solutions"
Harry Reid

"The voters have not endorsed the failures or excesses of the president's first term, they have simply given him more time to finish the job they asked him to do"
                                                                    Mitch McConnell

At the beginning of each new Congress there is an opportunity to change the parliamentary rules....it's time to end the filibuster and the so called "super majority" requirement to pass legislation....if the liberals do not get this done, the minority party (with McConnell leading the charge) will continue to hold the legislative body hostage with filibuster abuse as no Senate minority ever has in American history, all the while demanding complete prostration by the majority before anything can get enacted.

MY OFFICIAL PRESIDENTIAL ENDORSEMENT

I never had high hopes...I never understood the fervor that brought him into office. He was a one term Senator from one of the most corrupt states in American history. I just didn't get it.

I passionately supported Hillary Clinton. She had the brains, the experience, the courage and the pedigree...the nomination should have gone her way. It almost did. But the strangest thing happened....an man of African-American decent captured the hearts, souls and  imagination of the American people, and a wave of political fever overtook this great nation. And it all started in Iowa. Iowa....as unlikely place as any for it to happen...the job was hers...she had earned it. It should have been a "two-fer"....a great President guided by the last man to sit in the Oval office and balance a budget. She deserved her place in history.

I never predicted his claims of hope and change would come true. It was well beyond his control. It would have taken the absolute cooperation of a group of people who hated him like no other political opposition before. A political group of political opponents who held a meeting while he was placing his hand on the Bible...and the agenda was how to ensure that son of a bitch failed.

He had no chance. We were fighting two wars....anti-American sentiment never higher and increasing....banks were collapsing...financial institutions were about to go belly up....he was left a huge deficit from a man who took office with a balanced budget and the potential for a surplus.....real estate market on it's knees...devastating job losses (800,000 the month prior to his taking office)...and the American auto industry was given its last rites.  And his Speakers of each congress were Tweedle-Dee and Tweedle-Dumb fuck. He was screwed from day one. I don't even know why the GOP even bothered to have a meeting...the sonofabitch didn't have a snowballs chance in hell...and the snowball was an American economy moving down the hill picking up steam....and at the bottom of the hill laid a second American great depression.

But he made a believer out of me. Against unprecedented opposition...and unprecedented hatred by conservatives....he staved of fthat great depression and crafted a slow, consistent recovery. He brought the auto industry back from the dead. The signs are less than enviable, but they are there just the same. The economy has been growing, jobs have been created, consumer confidence is back, the stock market is fully back, and millions of formerly uninsured Americans can go to a doctor again. He made it easier to go to college, and put an end to predator college loans. He has kept us safe, kept Al Qaeda on the run, exacted revenge for the victims of 9/11, ended one war and is moving towards ending the other. He has passed many meaningful pieces of legislation, including the Ledbetter fair Pay Act.

What's more...he has made every effort to bring this country, this government, this political party system back together. But they wouldn't have it. They did everything they could do to see him reach his "Waterloo"...even if it meant four hard, cold years for the American people.

Even under ever-increasing odds against him, he kept his head up and kept pushing forward. And he did it with a grace and coolness of demeanor impossible to achieve by a lesser person. He showed his medal...he showed his love of family, and country, and the people struggling to survive during a very difficult economic environment...an environment he didn't create....but it didn't stop his opponents to try and hang him with it.

In my opinion, he has done an admirable job despite tremendous odds...despite forces...formidable forces... united in an effort to see him fail.

I didn't get it on day one. Didn't get it after year one. But I get it now. He has done an admirable job. He has made me proud again. It hasn't been perfect, but overall, he has done an amazing job given the condition of the country on day one.

And for what it is worth, I stand before you proud to endorse the re-election of Barack Hussein Obama for President of the United States. And I do it without reservation, or hesitation. I do it with pride. I hope you join me in this effort.

But no matter of who you choose to spend your precious vote on, get out and exercise your right to vote, a right that was bought and paid for with the blood, sweat and tears of your forefathers. Do not squander it...and don't let anyone diminish the value of that right, or the power of your vote.

God Bless you and your family. And God bless America.
Thanks for visiting my world..."The World According to Kimba."

ROMNEY: (NEWS) PAPER THIN

The Tampa Bay Times:  "Obama has capably steered the nation through an incredibly difficult period at home and abroad, often with little help from Congress. The next four years will not be easy for whoever occupies the Oval Office, but Obama has been tested by harsh circumstance and proven himself worthy of a second term."

the Salt Lake Tribune in very Romney (and Mormon) friendly Utah just endorsed Obama. They declare that ".....they thought they knew Romney, from his background and work on Olympics but now are appalled by "his servile courtship of the tea party in order to win the nomination, and now as the party’s shape-shifting nominee. From his embrace of the party’s radical right wing, to subsequent portrayals of himself as a moderate champion of the middle class, Romney has raised the most frequently asked question of the campaign: 'Who is this guy, really, and what in the world does he truly believe?'"

"Politicians routinely tailor their words to suit an audience. Romney, though, is shameless, lavishing vastly diverse audiences with words, any words, they would trade their votes to hear.

More troubling, Romney has repeatedly refused to share specifics of his radical plan to simultaneously reduce the debt, get rid of Obamacare (or, as he now says, only part of it), make a voucher program of Medicare, slash taxes and spending, and thereby create millions of new jobs. To claim, as Romney does, that he would offset his tax and spending cuts (except for billions more for the military) by doing away with tax deductions and exemptions is utterly meaningless without identifying which and how many would get the ax. Absent those specifics, his promise of a balanced budget simply does not pencil out.

If this portrait of a Romney willing to say anything to get elected seems harsh, we need only revisit his branding of 47 percent of Americans as freeloaders who pay no taxes, yet feel victimized and entitled to government assistance. His job, he told a group of wealthy donors, "is not to worry about those people. I’ll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives."

Cleveland Plain Dealer:  Much of what beset America during Obama’s first term lay outside his direct control. The bobsled slide into recession was in full motion when he took office. The economic calamity has been global; recovery, sporadic and weak. Obama’s attempts to reach across the aisle politically were met with unbending resistance, even belligerence… Romney’s tendency to bluster on foreign policy provides more cause for doubt. With tens of thousands of young Americans still in harm’s way in Afghanistan, the United States cannot afford to be drawn into new wars without clear national interests at stake or to sap its resources in further open-ended conflicts. The Benghazi killings reveal the risks of an “Arab Spring” in which terrorists have gained new weaponry and new freedom to operate. But these challenges require inventive diplomacy and international engagement, not slogans or swagger.

Public opinion opposed another bailout. Romney urged the companies to file for traditional bankruptcy — at a time when private-sector credit was frozen even for healthy firms. Obama told the companies to restructure using the Bankruptcy Court and set conditions for government financing: GM’s chairman had to go. Excess plants and dealerships had to close. Chrysler had to be bought out by Fiat. Contracts had to be renegotiated… It was unpopular but gutsy. And it worked. That’s leadership that deserves a chance to finish the job. Re-elect President Obama.

USA Today fact check:  "In just one term, Romney drove the state down to 47th out of 50th in job creation, increased per capita debt to the largest in the nation, left his successor a $1 billion deficit, and pushed through a tax cut that overwhelmingly benefited 278 of the wealthiest residents while raising taxes and fees on everyone else. And he did all of this while refusing to work across the aisle. Mitt Romney wouldn’t make Washington better- he’d make it worse.” In one term, Romney did manage to decimate job growth. “Unlike Obama, Romney took office during an economic uptick. Massachusetts had a net job growth of 1.4 percent under Romney. However, that was far slower growth than the national average of 5.3%. As Romney’s opponents have frequently, and correctly, noted, Massachusetts ranked 47th in job growth over the entirety of Romney’s term. The only states that did worse: Louisiana, Michigan and Ohio.”
The New Yorker: "....the reelection of a President who has been progressive, competent, rational, decent, and, at times, visionary is a serious matter. The President has achieved a run of ambitious legislative, social, and foreign-policy successes that relieved a large measure of the human suffering and national shame inflicted by the Bush Administration. Obama has renewed the honor of the office he holds.

The choice is clear. The Romney-Ryan ticket represents a constricted and backward-looking vision of America: the privatization of the public good. In contrast, the sort of public investment championed by Obama—and exemplified by both the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and the Affordable Care Act—takes to heart the old civil-rights motto “Lifting as we climb.” That effort cannot, by itself, reverse the rise of inequality that has been under way for at least three decades. But we’ve already seen the future that Romney represents, and it doesn’t work.

The reelection of Barack Obama is a matter of great urgency. Not only are we in broad agreement with his policy directions; we also see in him what is absent in Mitt Romney—a first-rate political temperament and a deep sense of fairness and integrity. A two-term Obama Administration will leave an endearingly positive imprint on political life. It will bolster the ideal of good governance and a social vision that tempers individualism with a concern for community. Every Presidential election involves a contest over the idea of America. Obama’s America—one that progresses, however falteringly, toward social justice, tolerance, and equality—represents the future that this country deserves."

Rudy Guiliani: "...this is a man without substance, without a core....this is a man who will say anything to become President..." “I’ve never seen a guy change his position so many times, so fast, on a dime.”

Newt Gingrich:  I've been Romney-boated.... Somebody who will lie to you to get to be president, will lie to you when they are president."  "[Romney's] not telling the American people the truth. It's just like this pretense that he's a conservative.... I just think he ought to be honest with the American people and try to win as the real Mitt Romney, not try to invent a poll-driven, consultant-guided version that goes around with talking points."

More Gingrich:  "We're not going to beat Barack Obama with some guy who has Swiss bank accounts, Cayman Island accounts, owns shares of Goldman Sachs while it forecloses on Florida and is himself a stockholder in Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac while he tries to think the rest of us are too stupid to put the dots together to understand what this is all about...."

And finally from Gingrich: “Those of us who believe in free markets and those of us who believe that in fact the whole goal of investment is entrepreneurship and job creation,” Mr. Gingrich said, “we find it pretty hard to justify rich people figuring out clever legal ways to loot a company, leaving behind 1,700 families without a job.”

Michelle Bachmann: " “They (voters) want to know what’s the truth. They’re not interested in a chameleon.”

Sheldon Adelson: “He’s not a bold decision maker like Newt Gingrich is. Every time I talk to him (Romney),  he says ‘well let me think about it.’”

Rick Santorum:  “Pick any other Republican in the country. He is the worst Republican in the country to put up against Barack Obama.” “He glosses over and doesn’t even tell the truth. … Here is a guy who is the ultimate flip-flopper running for president, and he’s attacking me for not being principled? That doesn’t wash.”

Rand Paul:  “I do not yet know if I will find a Romney presidency more acceptable on foreign policy. But I do know that I must oppose the most recent statements made by Mitt Romney in which he says he, as president, could take us to war unilaterally with Iran...."

American Family Association spokesman Bryan Fischer:  “If Mitt Romney can be pushed around, intimidated, coerced, co-opted by a conservative radio talk show host in Middle America, then how is he going to stand up to the Chinese? How is he going to stand up to Putin? How is he going to stand up to North Korea if he can be pushed around by a yokel like me? I don’t think Romney is realizing the doubts that this begins to raise about his leadership.”

Rick Perry: “Now I have no doubt that Mitt Romney was worried about pink slips — whether he was going to have enough of them to hand out because his company Bain Capital with all the jobs that they killed, I’m sure he was worried that he’d run out of pink slips. There is something inherently wrong when getting rich off failure and sticking it to someone else is how you do your business and I happen to think that’s indefensible. If you’re a victim of Bain Capital’s downsizing, it’s the ultimate insult for Mitt Romney to come to South Carolina and tell you he feels your pain, because he caused it.”

Mike Huckabee: “I believe most Americans want their next President to remind them of the guy they work with, not the guy who laid them off.”

Grover Norquist: “All we have to do is replace Obama. We are not auditioning for fearless leader. We don’t need a president to tell us in what direction to go. We know what direction to go. We want the Ryan budget. We just need a president to sign this stuff. We don’t need someone to think it up or design it....Pick a Republican with enough working digits to handle a pen to become President of the United States.

But let's be fair and listen to the man (Romney) himself:
"I'm not concerned about the very poor, there is a safety net there"

"I like being able to fire people"

"Planned Parenthood, we're going to get rid of that"

"Corporations are people, my friend… of course they are. Everything corporations earn ultimately goes to the people. Where do you think it goes? Whose pockets? Whose pockets? People's pockets. Human beings, my friend."

"There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it -- that that's an entitlement. And the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what. ... These are people who pay no income tax. ... [M]y job is not to worry about those people. I'll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives."

"When you have a fire in an aircraft, there's no place to go, exactly, there's no -- and you can't find any oxygen from outside the aircraft to get in the aircraft, because the windows don't open. I don't know why they don't do that. It's a real problem."

"As president, I will create 12 million new jobs."
—Mitt Romney, during the second presidential debate
"Government does not create jobs. Government does not create jobs."

—Mitt Romney, 45 minutes later (Oct. 16, 2012)

"I believe in an America where millions of Americans believe in an America that's the America millions of Americans believe in. That's the America I love."
