CRIMINALS BETTER GO "STRAIGHT"

H.R. 1592: Hate Crimes Protection Bill
Scaring the CRAP out of the christian right.

This coupon was found on the Faith2Action website,
and it reads as follows:
CRIMINAL: 33% off jail time for assaulting Grandma or other non-homosexuals. Present this sentence "saving" coupon along with the Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act" for a reduced penalty just for targeting Grandma, a small child, or an innocent bystander rather than a homosexual.
HOMOSEXUAL: Rep. Conyers says that your sexual activities gives you special protection under the law. If Congress agrees, present this coupon (and homosexual sex verification) to receive more protection than a Grandma assaulted in the exact same way!
GRANDMA: Tough luck!!
The coupon goes on to say, "Just tell Grandma her life isn't worth as much as a homosexuals's. I'm sure she'll understand--some victim's lives are more important than others.
THIS COUPON VOID IF PROHIBITED BY CONGRESS

I have already blown wide holes in most of your arguments. but what about your thoughts on forcing private business to that may be religious in hiring non-religious homosexuals? Do you wish to impose the "fury" of this politically-correct state on a Christian business owner with 15 or more employees. And if he doesn't hire a homosexual or cross-dressing man his business can be fines out of existence?

Your unequal protection under the law and the cases being brought soon after its passage under a Democrat president will throw pastors in the brink (like in other countries with similar laws... even as close as Canada) or homosexual activists trying to get hired on, say, at Focus on the Family.

Oh! There was this in the numbers in an article I posted:

In 2005, out of 863,000 cases of aggravated assault, just 177 cases were crimes of bias against homosexuals.

George Will
... Hate crime laws -- 45 states already have them; Congress does not mind being duplicative -- mandate enhanced punishments for crimes committed because of thoughts that government especially disapproves. That is, crimes committed because of, not merely accompanied by, those thoughts. Mind-reading juries are required to distinguish causation from correlation.

The federal hate crime law enacted in 1968 enhanced punishments only for crimes against persons engaged in a federally protected activity, such as voting. H.R. 1592 would extend special federal protections to persons who are crime victims because of their race, color, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity or disability. But there are many other groups, so there will be other hate crime bills....

Plucky Julia aside, questions remain. Are all rapes hate crimes because rapists pick the victims because of their gender? When in 1989, a gang of black and Hispanic youths went ``wilding'' in Central Park, raping and savagely beating a white jogger, was this considered a hate crime? No, because the youths also assaulted some Hispanics, so their punishment was not enhanced.

When a surveillance camera recently taped a mugger beating and robbing a 101-year-old New York woman, he was charged with a hate crime -- presumably hatred of the elderly. His attack on a 51-year-old woman was not a hate crime. Complications multiply, protected categories proliferate. Next? People who wear fur or eat meat? Some writings by the killer at Virginia Tech expressed hatred of the rich, but they are not a category protected in this year's hate crime legislation. Perhaps in next year's.

I just thank God that Kimba is not in control... Mussolini comes to mind:

“Everything I have said and done in these last years is relativism by intuition…. If relativism signifies contempt for fixed categories and men who claim to be bearers of an objective, immortal truth… then there is nothing more relativistic than fascistic attitudes and activity…. From the fact that all ideologies are of equal value, that all ideologies are mere fictions, the modern relativist infers that everybody has the right to create for himself his own ideology and to attempt to enforce it with all the energy of which he is capable.”

Research indicates 31% of gay youth were threatened or injured at school. Many to most of these went unreported. These experiences have a devastating impact on the educational success and mental health of youth. Anti-gay prejudice affects straight youth, too. For every gay, lesbian, and bisexual youth being harassed, 4 straight students were harassed because they were perceived as being gay or lesbian.

Unreported? How do you know? So we should have harassment laws? What kind of draconian society should we have to prevent harassment? So you will force a Christian bookstore owner to hire homosexuals to prevent Harassment? You don't make any sense Kimba. You change peoples hearts and minds in regards to harassment, not enforce the Federal Bureaucracy on people who may have a differing view of what harassment entails than the politically-incorrect government.

1592 is also opposed by the only two homosexual people I know personally. And also by Al Rantell and Tammy Bruce, of radio and columnist fame, respectively.

You cannot change these peoples minds, nor do they have a heart. This is not about religion. It is about violence and harassment and hate. This is about the extremely obvious cases of a crime committed solely against someone with an "alternative" life style. Have some faith in the judicial system to know the difference, and set high standards for its enforcement. It is merely a tool to prosecute these people and put them away. We cannot stop them, but we can prevent them from repeating their heinous, bigoted crimes.

Employers have nothing to worry about. You simply interview until you have found the person(s) you wish to hire. As a manager I have no responsibility to address what motivated me to hire someone over anyone else. Of course, I do try to build my team across a broad spectrum of residents.

Personally, I would want to patronize a Christian bookstore who would be so open minded as to hire both of your friends.

Lord forgive me, did you read what I just wrote? As if hiring your two homosexual friends requires an open mind?

I just want people to stop hurting, and as a group, homosexuals have long suffered. So have other groups, Jews, Blacks, etc. I want my government to come to their aid as much as possible. Democracy is a terrible system of government, no doubt. But when the government stops trying, if THIS government stops trying, what kind of a world will we live in. Sure, you can pick this apart. Just as many picked apart the Civil Rights Bill, and the ERA, and the Emancipation Proclamation. We may be going about it all wrong, but if wrong, I want to be wrong on the side of human rights.

Get used to it, Papa. The left has taken over our government, and we aren't going to stop. We are going to take you (and your blog) to places you never, ever wanted to go. But it will always out of the best intentions for the electorate (with a little pork spent at the end of each bill).

Regards from the left, Kimba

By the way, Papa, give your friends this blogs address. I would be very interested in their lines of thinking.

Listen to Al Rantell and get his view. Read the "Thought Police" by Tammy Bruce. Which is what you are espousing, "thought police."

I grew up in the worse neighborhood Detroit had to offer in the 70's and early 80's. I was the only white kid in about a 10-square-block radius. Black kids would cross the street and yell racial epithets at me and soon a fight would ensue. Normally the odds were in their favor as well... since I was the only white kid.

Should they be charged with hat-crimes Kimba?

The Thought Police

By Chuck Colson5/1/2007

What the Hate Crimes Law Would Do

In George Orwell’s classic novel 1984, the government Thought Police constantly spies on citizens to make sure they are not thinking rebellious thoughts. Thought crimes are severely punished by Big Brother.

1984 was intended as a warning against totalitarian governments that enslave and control their citizens. Never have we needed this warning more urgently than now, because America’s Thought Police are knocking on your door.

Last week the House Judiciary Committee, egged on by radical homosexual groups, passed what can only be called a Thought Crimes bill. It’s called the Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act. But this bill is not about hate. It’s not even about crime. It’s about outlawing peaceful speech—speech that asserts that homosexual behavior is morally wrong.

Some say we need this law to prevent attacks on homosexuals. But we already have laws against assaults on people and property. Moreover, according to the FBI, crimes against homosexuals in the United States have dropped dramatically in recent years. In 2005, out of 863,000 cases of aggravated assault, just 177 cases were crimes of bias against homosexuals—far less than even 1 percent.

Another problem is that in places where hate crimes laws have been passed, hate crimes have been defined to include verbal attacks—and even peaceful speech. The Thought Police have already prosecuted Christians under hate crimes laws in England, Sweden, Canada, and even in some places in the United States.

If this dangerous law passes, pastors who preach sermons giving the biblical view of homosexuality could be prosecuted. Christian businessmen who refuse to print pro-gay literature could be prosecuted. Groups like Exodus International, which offer therapy to those with unwanted same-sex attraction, could be shut down.
In classic 1984 fashion, peaceful speech will be redefined as a violent attack worthy of punishment.

This is the unspoken goal of activist groups. We know this because during the debate over the bill last week, Congressman Mike Pence (R) of Indiana offered a Freedom of Religion amendment to this hate crimes bill. It asked that nothing in this law limit the religious freedom of any person or group under the Constitution. The committee refused to adopt it. It also refused to adopt amendments protecting other groups from hate crimes—like members of the military, who are often targets of verbal attacks and spitting. They also shot down amendments that would protect the homeless and senior citizens, also often targeted by criminals. Nothing doing, the committee said—the only group they wanted to protect: homosexuals.

Clearly, the intent of this law is not to prevent crime, but to shut down freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and freedom of thought. Its passage would strike at the very heart of our democracy.

The full Congress may vote on this bill as early as this week. Unless you want Big Brother telling you what to say, what to think, and what to believe, I urge you to contact your congressman immediately, urging him or her to vote against this bill. If you visit the BreakPoint website, you’ll find more information about this radical law.

If we do nothing, 1984 will no longer be fiction, and Big Brother will be watching you and me—ready to punish the “wrong” thoughts.
