GRASPING DEFEAT FROM THE JAWS OF VICTORY

After a very disappointing showing in Indiana and North Carolina, it is with great sadness that I must admit (and end my denial) in reporting that the Clinton machine is now on official death watch. Early reports are that the day after the primaries have only eeked out a modicum of donations, and Hillary will be squeezed out monetarily, as well as in popularity in what may become an Obama landslide of states, most of whom are already polling overwhelming support for the Senator from Illinois.

United in November? Most polls show that over 35% of Clinton supporters will refuse to support Obama, either with their Mc Cain votes, or their absence from the polls altogether.
The Obama machine continues to enjoy its "Teflon" coating as it weathers storm after storm with the voters, both for his long association with the Reverend Wright (something Oprah was smart enough to disavow long, long ago), as well as numerous gaffs over the past few months.
Calls from the Clinton camp that Obama is unelectable, however relevant, as well as their spin around the need for the exact voting groups drawn to Clinton necessary in order to be elected in November will go unheeded by the remaining voters, and super delegates. The only thing left for the Clinton campaign is a vain attempt on receiving enough contributions to cover their outstanding debts, which continue to run into the millions.
Yet another classic case of the Dems finding a way to find defeat from the near certainty of victory. Will the bitterness among Clinton supporters ease over time, and in time for a November general election? Polls say no, yet history says yes to a certain extent. Let's face it, with the present administration's approval ratings in the twenties, what left leaning voter would be so "bitter" and so stupid as to actually vote for four more years of the worst administration in the history of this country?
Prediction? Obama wins narrowly, and becomes the modern day Black Jimmy Carter. Mired in childlike optimism unfortified by wisdom or experience, this country continues along its present path until the Republican machine unseats him in four years. One and done. And it will be a decade before the country so much as considers any minority, in race or sex, to be a viable candidate for President again as a result.
