Clinton Gimmick: Forcing the petroleum producers to pay the 18.4 cents federal excise tax on gasoline as a short term relief to the American taxpayers over the course of summer 2008 (windfall profits taxation).
Obama rationale: This is merely a gimmick Hillary came up with to woo the voters. As for the taxpayers? Let them eat cake (or shit). No action on the behalf of the American consumers would be better than taking profits away from the oil producers, even though they continue to rake in record profits year after year.
