NEW GOP (grasping at) STRAW POLL FOR 2012 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION
Right behind the 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee, and well within the poll's margin of error, is former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee. Twenty-six percent of those questioned say they are most likely backing Huckabee, the surprise winner of the 2008 Iowa GOP caucuses.
Twenty-one percent of Republicans polled say they most likely would support former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, another GOP hopeful from the last campaign who may run again. Nine percent say they would probably back Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, who is considered a rising star in the GOP.
Those attending the meetings are voting in a straw poll for their favorite candidate for the next Republican presidential nomination. The results of which were Romney received 20 percent of the vote and Jindal got 14 percent. Close behind were Texas Rep. Ron Paul and Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, who each received 13 percent of the vote.
The results were culled over two days from 1,757 of the party activists who came to Washington for the annual conference and filled out ballots on Thursday and Friday. Nearly 60 percent of the straw poll participants were between the ages of 18 and 25. More than half of the conference attendees this year were college students.
The choices in the poll were: Florida Gov. Charlie Crist; former House speaker Newt Gingrich; former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani; former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee; Jindal; Paul; Palin; Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty; Romney; South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford, and "Undecided." There was also space on the ballots for a write in vote.

OBAMA SOARS, WHILE JINDEL BORES
In other words, we have lived through an era where too often, short-term gains were prized over long-term prosperity; where we failed to look beyond the next payment, the next quarter, or the next election. A surplus became an excuse to transfer wealth to the wealthy instead of an opportunity to invest in our future. Regulations were gutted for the sake of a quick profit at the expense of a healthy market. People bought homes they knew they couldn’t afford from banks and lenders who pushed those bad loans anyway. And all the while, critical debates and difficult decisions were put off for some other time on some other day.
Well that day of reckoning has arrived, and the time to take charge of our future is here."

THESE BANKS NEED A STIMULUS AS WELL
It is those people who, over the last several months, have started arriving in growing numbers at food pantries, which are often the first tentative step for those whose incomes are too high to qualify for government assistance. (Many pantries have a no-questions policy, though they might determine how many bags of groceries a customer can receive by the number of people in the household.)
These are people who have never had to ask for help before, and they could easily be your neighbors, or the parents of your children's class mates. Whereas in our parents generations communities were just that, a circle of neighbors and friends looking out for each other; today's communities are far more cloistered and aloof.
Don't know where to help? Try this web site (link). They have been serving the needs of the resources impaired for years now. Still not convinced? try these statistics on for size....according to the USDA, there are 35 million Americans without the resources necessary to get enough food for their tables, and that is one in eight. Yes, 1 in 8 Americans need assistance with our nations abundant food resources, and only 12% of them are homeless. They are increasingly like you and me, and they need our help. Need one more push? Last year, the L.A. Regional Food bank serviced over 156,000 clients a week. A week. And of those, 27% were children, and 15% were elderly. Let's get involved.

SET YOUR CALENDAR FOR THE GARAGE SALE OF ALL TIME
In April, an extraordinary auction will provide an unprecedented look into the private world of Michael Jackson. More than 2,000 items, ranging from personal effects and costumes to pieces from Jackson's private art collection as well as fittings and furnishings from his Neverland ranch, will be up for sale at a four-day public auction at the Beverly Hilton hotel in Los Angeles.Jackson surrounded himself with regal finery. There were suits of armour, display cases of custom-made crowns and an ornately carved throne with red velvet upholstering in his bedroom.
The sale also includes vintage video game machines, as well as Jackson's collection of 18th- and 19th-century art. There are books about Disney, the Three Stooges, Peter Pan and Alfred Hitchcock, as well as a collection of black history books, including the autobiography of Malcolm X. Then there is a selection of his own stage costumes, dating back from the days of the Jackson 5 through to the present. There is one of the fedoras he wore in the video for Billie Jean; a pair of trousers so studded with diamanté that they feel as heavy as chain mail; there are customised military jackets, featuring insignia surely acquired on his global travels - including badges from the Royal Air Force and the Thai Narcotics Bureau.
And all at bargain rates. Own a piece of history, or just pick up an item or two to complete a room in your castle, the Jackson auction will certainly be a real circus. Some might even say it will be a real "thriller."

THE NEGATIVE SPECTER OF VOTING YOUR CONSCIENCE
Delaware-based Let Freedom Ring on Tuesday began making 100,000 robo-calls in Pennsylvania and 50,000 in Maine, according to Colin Hanna, the group's president. "Would you be willing to contact your senator, Arlen Specter, today and tell him to vote no on the Obama tax and spend plan?" the Pennsylvania call asks, before providing a phone number for Specter's Washington office.

"MAYBE IF I JUST SHUT MY MOUTH NO ONE WILL NOTICE"
First it was Richardson, who accepted a cabinet position knowing full well he was under investigation at the time for awarding a large New Mexico contract to a huge political donor. Now, the Mensa class of 2009, Daschle, Geithner and Killefer, all knowing they were a tax invasion bomb waiting to detonate. Daschle accepted the use of a donated car, which is taxable. Geithner knew he owed back taxes ($34,000.00), and made the government wait until he was nominated to get their just dues. And Killefer was the winner of a $946.69 tax lien on her home in 2005 for failure to pay unemployment compensation tax on household help. And whatever momentum the Obama administration had garnered post-inauguration grinds to a halt as the new president struggles to get the vetting process egg off his face. "This is a self-induced injury that I'm angry about, and we're going to make sure we get it fixed," Obama said on ABC's "World News."
Would it have so wrong for these clowns to come clean during the vetting process? Here Obama gets elected on the promise of an ultra clean administration, and three paces out of the starting gate, he has to endure the explanations, and forced resignations from these mathematical geniuses. They say the first 100 days are the most critical for getting something done, and the Obama machine is definitely sputtering. A failed vote on his stimulus package, and he will be left with nothing to hang his hat on; only the upcoming expectations of the next gaffe(s) from his Vice President, who already has had to issue three apologies for his loose wise cracks.
The other day, a car was spotted sporting a bumper sticker that read, "Don't blame me....I voted for McCain / Palin." If recent events are any indicator of the next four years, my car will be wearing a Clinton sticker again.

GOOGLE BIG BROTHER?
Google unveiled its new mobile location tracking service, Google Latitude, on Wednesday. Google Latitude, if you haven’t heard, lets you have your location monitored and shared in real-time with your friends, family, or whomever you choose. Once you sign up, GPS satellites and cell towers watch your whereabouts. They pull location data from your laptop or smartphone, then pinpoint you on a pretty little Google Map as you go about your day. While Google Latitude isn’t the first mobile location tracking service to hit the market, it may be the first with the potential for mainstream and widespread adoption. Here is a short video produced by Google.
See where your friends are and what they are up to, quickly contact them with SMS, IM, or a phone call, and maintain complete control over your privacy. You can sign up to put Google Latitude on your phone, PC, or both.
From your mobile phone - View your friends' locations and status messages and share yours with them. (Supported phones)
From your computer - View your friends' locations and status messages on a full screen even without a compatible phone or data plan. Click here to see your friends from your PC.

OLYMPIC TRAINING EXERCISE
This is not offensive, this is a training exercise to see how long our Olympic swim team can hold their breaths. So he smokes pot. Big deal, so has Clinton, Obama, and Bush II. We need to get over this crazy preference of alcohol to pot. As long as people do not operate a car impared, what is the difference? A gateway drug to other drugs? Sure it is, because you made it illegal along with heroin and cocaine. So, if you want some for home use, you go to a dealer, who also sells harder drugs.Pot needs to be grown commercially, sold over the counter and taxed. The last time I saw the box score on the "war on drugs," we were getting our asses kicked. We need to stop making criminals out of people who prefer to smoke rather than getting drunk, which makes you more impared, and violent (at least for some). You do not see pot smokers on skid row, but you sure do see alcoholics.
Let's stop sending the money spent on pot to Mexico, Columbia and elsewhere, when we need the money, and tax revenue at home. They are going to buy it anyway, so why not regulate it like we do alcohol, tobacco, or the rest of the harmful products that we currently have legalized?
And get off Michael Phelps (if the picture is in fact him, and not some big hoax).

WHILE DELL & GATES COUNT THEIR MOOLAH, INDIA INNOVATES
On February 3, the Indian government will unveil a $10 educational laptop intended to bring computing to the masses, reports the Times of India. Like a lot of cheap PCs, the device will sport 2GB of RAM, Wi-Fi and expandable hardware, and operate on a modest two watts of power. The current prototype can be produced for about $20, according to India's Secretary for Higher Education, R.P. Agarwal. Large-scale production runs should cut that price in half, he said, resulting in the $10 figure the government is touting. According to the Times of India, the $10 laptop is a direct response to the MIT-developed nonprofit One Laptop Per Child program, that was viewed as grossly expensive in India.Friday, January 30, 2009

A CELLULAR MEA CULPA
And now I Kimba, constant critic of all things in a world gone mad, will occasionally be seen tooling around L.A. talking to myself , with a $100 piece of crap firmly lodged in my ear, like I am desperately trying to make people think I am something special. Like it or not, I am now a pathetic, card carrying member of the egghead and social strivers club of Los Angeles, first class.
Oh, but you don't even know the worst of it. I have texted (or is it just text?). Two weeks ago I couldn't even get my stubby fingers to differentiate between the ridiculously small alphabet keys on the damn thing. Now I can text with equal skill of anyone over the age of thirty. I am no match for my eleven year old daughter, but I am pretty friggin' proficent for a guy who holds anyone who texts in such high contempt.
So there it is. My mea culpa. My apology, my retraction from previous posts, my deepest regrets, not to mention my complete inability to hover (at least in my mind) above the mindless sheep of the world. I am now a flat lined brain waved drone like the rest of the world. The world has finally beaten me down. I have succumb to it. But, for the record, I am only wearing this as a condition for continued employment, which does at least save me a modicum of self respect, and slightest shred of dignity.

IT'S NOT JUST IRAN THAT HOPES WE GO DOWN THE TUBES
Any one doubting that our new President has a near genius intellect, would do well to read this recent Obama quote: “You can’t just listen to Rush Limbaugh and get things done,” he told top GOP leaders, whom he had invited to the White House to discuss his $875 billion stimulus package.Later the White house clarified: “There are big things that unify Republicans and Democrats. We shouldn’t let partisan politics derail what are very important things that need to get done.” No clarification necessary. If there ever was a pompous, overblown waste of human flesh, it is Rush Limbaugh. Here is yet another wonderful quote from the blithering idiot, Mr. Limbaugh. A man so insane, so anti-American, he hopes the country tanks for the next four years.
"So I’m thinking of replying to the guy, “Okay, I’ll send you a response, but I don’t need 400 words, I need four: I hope he fails.” (interruption) What are you laughing at? See, here’s the point. Everybody thinks it’s outrageous to say. Look, even my staff, “Oh, you can’t do that.” Why not? Why is it any different, what’s new, what is unfair about my saying I hope liberalism fails? Liberalism is our problem. Liberalism is what’s gotten us dangerously close to the precipice here. Why do I want more of it? I don’t care what the Drive-By story is. I would be honored if the Drive-By Media headlined me all day long: “Limbaugh: I Hope Obama Fails.” Somebody’s gotta say it.
IT'S NEW, BUT WILL IT LOSE ITS FIZZ?
I guess it was only a matter of time, American entrepreneurship being what it is. Obama books, musical soundtracks, clothing, even an Obama Chia Pet head. So, Obama soda is not so far fetched, and is destined to be worth more on the souvenir market than Billy Beer someday. And, like its namesake, even with tremendous agitation, it refuses to lose its pop top. It contains some artificial and some natural ingredients, include tremendous amounts of caffeine, and trace amounts of nicotine, although its manufacturers will deny it to the grave.
MODERATION WAS THE KEY IN PICKING GILLIBRAND
You probably never heard of her, but you will. She is a young, folksy, centrist Democrat from rural upstate New York who was just re-elected to her second term in Congress and is now inheriting the Senate seat vacated by Hillary Rodham Clinton. Who is she?
She is Kirsten E. Gillibrand, a 42-year-old lawyer, a relentless campaigner and fund-raiser, a competitive woman whose friends, unprompted, suggest she might someday soon seek the presidency.Overall, I think Governor Patterson has made a very wise choice with Gillibrand, especially considering the pressure he had from the voters to nominate either the veteran Attorney General Cuomo, or the emotional favorite, Caroline Kennedy. This is the time to reach across the aisle and work together. This is the time for serious thinkers who carefully weigh their opinions and vote their conscience, irrespective of party lines. I think this may be her time, and many in the party agree.

6 REASONS I AM SORRY TO SEE HIM GO
IS THIS A HYBRID, OR A HYBIRD?
A Boston-area company plans to begin flight tests this year of a two-seater airplane that moonlights as a car. The aptly named Transition takes a stab at bridging the gap between automobiles and airplanes. Some people call it a flying car. The company designing and selling the vehicle prefers the term "roadable aircraft."Either way, it boils down to this: You sit down behind the steering wheel, drive to the runway, unfold two wings and take off. You can fly 500 miles on a tank of gas -- regular unleaded -- and when you land, you simply fold up the wings and drive where you want to go. At the end of the day, you fly back, drive home and park inside your garage. Terrafugia, of Woburn, Mass., is not the first firm to attempt what may be the ultimate hybrid.
