Colin Powell, who held Barack Obama-like status with the American people, who displayed Obamaesque charisma and almost universal respect and admiration as a man's man; as his own man, extolling the need for action in the Middle east (video below, along with a little dialogue from his number one man).
It was COLIN POWELL saying it, folks. Like Barack, I don't know how I would have voted on the Presidential authorization bill, but I certainly wouldn't hold it against anyone who believed him and voted aye. Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, nah. But if Colin Powell, an American hero (and the first truly viable black Presidential candidate eight years ago) said so, you have to stand up and listen. We now know it was a masterful manipulation. But who really cares about that vote as a defining moment for the candidates? Get passed this and talk about the future. The authorization vote? Ancient history. We need to get over it, and move on.

Colin Powell is a conservative who captured the ears of the entire American people. Not a "decider", but a "uniter."
Of course the jewish people lobbied for an increased U.S. presence in the Middle East. Iraq, Iran and others weren't a huge threat to us as a nation, but they were breathing down Israel's neck.
The whole point to the posting is the candidates are wasting time on the vote to authorize Presidential power (not an official war, per se). Even candidates who didn't HAVE a vote are saying they were against it. Easy for them to say (unless they went on record with a waffle).
